Peak Physical Therapy - After back surgery, I went to Peak to help me recover. I have always been very impressed with the staff of Peak and Core.

Most of my time is spent at work where I manage sales for a technology company.
What do you like to do for fun?
I like to get outside with my dog when the weather is nice. I also enjoy reading.
What is you least favorite thing to do at CORE?
That is a hard one because I like a challenge. I guess I would have to say that the 1000 meter row is my most challenging exercise.
What is you favorite movie?
I find it hard to name just one, but I really like The Big Lewbowski.
What inspires you to be as active as you are?
I was very active and in good shape prior to my back problems. I am so lucky to get a second chance after the surgery, and I want to make the most of it.
What is you favorite food?
Mexican Food!

"I am very blessed with a wonderful supportive husband and three beautiful children ages 17, 13, and 12."
What is your background in terms in exercise / fitness / sport?
I was very active in high school, slowed down in college, and basically stopped after that. I started walking with friends after I had children, but not consistently. I rediscovered tennis about six years ago, and really enjoy it.
Why did you decide to start training at CORE?
My sweet friend Carol shared her enthusiasm for her workouts, and invited and encouraged me to join her and another friend Claire.
If you had to say you learned one thing at CORE, what would it be?
I have learned that I am strong and can do much more than I thought possible, and that the effort is very little to pay for how much better I feel every day.
What is your favorite exercise?
At CORE, step ups, and outside tennis!
What is your least favorite exercise?
The Versa Climber!!
If you could go anywhere on vacation, where would you go?
Destin, Florida. I go there every year, but it is my favorite place to be.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I like to do fun things with my family, spend time with friends, play tennis, and read.
What is your favorite food?

What food do you find the hardest to resist?
Salty snacks

1) How much weight have you lost over the past 5 months?
I’ve lost 35 pounds.
2) What was the catalyst for this change?
The list is long. Clothes didn’t fit, wasn’t happy about the way I looked, wanted to be a role model & around for my kids, wanted to race better and set myself up for completing Ironman this year.
My epiphany came when I was listening to Chrissy Wellington (she is new to the sport of triathon and has won the Hawaiian Ironman the past three years) talk about gaining weight, if she happened to lose to much weight through her training, and consuming a clean diet. She said “If I need to put on a few pounds, my coach has me eat cheese for a few days then I’m good.” I love cheese. Then I started looking at the rest of dietary intake and realized I need to completely re-vamp my diet.
3) Prior to Jan 1, what did a typical day of eating look like for you?
Awful. I thought my exercise could keep up with my eating habits but was wrong.
4) What have you changed since then?
Eating Clean. Very little processed foods – mostly lean meats with plenty of fruits & vegetables. I’m exercising more consistently as well.
5) What are you currently training for?
I’m training for 3 more races this year, an Olympic distance, ½ Ironman, and then celebrating the training year with Florida Ironman in November.
6) Any training, nutritional, health etc. goals you’re looking to accomplish this year?
Be proactive so that I remain injury-free as I ramp my training up.
7) What is the worst movie you have ever seen?
I don’t dwell on negatives. One of my favorite movies is…Finding Nemo. Life is an amazing journey…even when you think you are looking for anything. It is always more fun to share your adventure w/ someone then go it alone.
8) What is your favorite song or artist?
Any song that makes me want to sing or dance (both of these should be done in private)
9) If you could have lunch with any person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
My Grandfather on my Father’s side. It would be over dinner instead of lunch – a more interesting meal. I would love to hear stories about my dad as he was growing up and the trouble he used to get into. Also, to learn more about my family’s genealogy and his life & adventures.
10) Anything you want to add…about anything.
I am truly blessed. The team I worked with as well as our clients/friends re-enforce everyday my blessings. None of this would be possible without my support and sacrifice of my wife – Kelli. She is awesome.
In closing, a great quote I came across sums it all – “He who realizes that he has enough…is rich.” I’m a rich man.

Why did you decide to start training at CORE?
A fellow client of CORE fitness Trish Armstrong is a neighbor of mine. She was talking about these classes she was taking. I started the classes in early November 2008. I lost 10lbs. and found out a few weeks later that I was pregnant with my second daughter. Due to prior infertility issues I chose to stop working out. Well my daughter Ruby was born August 2009 and 6 weeks later I started back at CORE. I wanted to lose the "baby weight" and a lot more!!! Of course I also wanted to be healthier, but honestly I wanted to be comfortable in my own skin first. Since I started CORE I have lost a little over 30 lbs. and have more to go.

And during the race I wanted to run the entire course. Well I achieved all my goals and ran the entire race and didn't finish last...
